About the series
The Healing Craft Series features creators sharing their thoughts and feelings on crafting and healing through crafting.
“Crocheting helps me with my anxiety and on top of that I can create something beautiful on the way!”
Anne, @slip.in.self
What kind of craft do you do and how long have you been doing it for?
I crochet, knit and sew. But I like to experience and learn new crafts, always developing! I was very craftsy from a very young age, I was sewing, designing, drawing etc, but I picked up crocheting last February due to losing my job to the big C.

What is your favourite place/time of day to craft and why?
At home, cozy in my chair watching a series or listening to music and just letting myself go… I am an anxious person by heart so crocheting gives my hands something to do. I like to crochet whenever I am free to do so.

What inspires you (in life & in crafting)?
I find inspiration from all around me, mostly from nature – everything is in perfect harmony and colors look so beautiful in their natural habitat. I get inspired by people around me, I think of their eye color and think which color/style of clothing/accessories would look amazing on them. What I make often goes hand in hand with what I am feeling/dreaming about. In life, I get inspired by clothing (yes, I am very passionate about it), people around me, seasons, new ideas and changes.
How has/is crafting helping you and your mental health?
I feel calmer and in action while crocheting. I am a perfectionist and goal oriented (short term). I enjoy making rather small and less time consuming projects as I can see the results instantly, but from time to time I step out of my comfort zone and make bigger projects. Crocheting helps me with my anxiety and on top of that I can create something beautiful on the way!

What is your advice to other creators (or newly started creators)?
Experiment, trust the process and don’t give up!
Anything else you’d like to share?
Yes! Let’s notice what goes on around us, let’s be more active and if there is something we can improve let’s do so. Great things happen out of our comfort zone. For example, I try to clean up trash from nature and in the city. I was afraid what people would think, it seemed so weird to do something that seemed to not be my responsibility at first, but then I realized if we all try to take care of our home, we can make a difference.
