About the series
The Healing Craft Series features creators sharing their thoughts and feelings on crafting and healing through crafting.
“Don’t ever shrink yourself to fit where you want to belong. You might miss where you’re actually needed.”
Jordan Pitts, @lapislilies
What kind of craft do you do and how long have you been doing it for?
I make crochet clothing, run a mental health blog and have also written two poetry self-help books. I’ve been writing since 3rd grade, crocheting for 3 years and blogging for 1.
What is your favourite place/time of day to craft and why?
I prefer to craft at night or in the early morning when there is silence and the day is starting or just ending.
What inspires you (in life & in crafting)?
Poetry inspires me and couture fashion. Art in general inspires me. I admire the many mediums.
How has/is crafting helping you and your mental health?
Crafting allows me to have an outlet for the chaos I feel inside. It helps me feel sane except when it doesn’t! Usually because I’m overthinking.
What is your advice to other creators (or newly started creators)?
Create what makes you happy. Just because it sells for everyone else doesn’t mean it’s meant for you to sell. Stay true to your ideas.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Don’t ever shrink yourself to fit where you want to belong. You might miss where you’re actually needed.
