About the series

The Healing Craft Series features creators sharing their thoughts and feelings on crafting and healing through crafting.

“Know yourself well and just do it for your own reasons. Stick to what inspires you.”

Zeynep, @xdeniz

What kind of craft do you do and how long have you been doing it for?

I can only crochet at the moment and make some bead jewellery. I’m learning basic embroidery and sewing skills so I can widen my craft creativity. I’ve been crocheting for less than a year now but I learnt knitting before from my mom when I was a kid.

What is your favourite place/time of day to craft and why?

Noon time sun in a park or beach. I just love being out in the sun, with nature. Crafting outdoor always feels calming.

What inspires you (in life & in crafting)?

My mom (she used to knit and crochet a lot), my culture (I’m from Turkey) and nature/wildlife.

How has/is crafting helping you and your mental health?

Growing up, I watched my mom create beautiful knit and crochet pieces for our house so I was into knitting back then. I was furloughed during the lockdown here so I started crocheting around that time

It really helped me to stay connected with my mom during pandemic, to be able to share a passion together. Also, It helps me with expressing my creativity, staying motivated, being patient and getting rid of any negativity that’s surronding me.

What is your advice to other creators (or newly started creators)?

Know yourself well and just do it for your own reasons. Stick to what inspires you. It’s easy to also give up in the beginning. I believe only those who truly believe in themselves and chase their dreams with a strong decisiveness win in this life. No matter what your background is.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Watching other creators inspire me and motivate me to keep going on my path. I’m learning new skills to develop a better collection for my brand.
I cannot wait to see a future where sustainable and ethical fashion is not a luxury anymore.
